As in pretty useless. Windows Live Mail released it’s new interface which actually looks quite beautiful (aside from the annoying ad space on the top). The right-click and drag-and-drop features are quite welcome and usefull! Too bad some other similar solutions out there aren’t so eye-candy… yes Gmail, I’m looking at you.
On the other hand, Live Mail doesn’t allow you to access your e-mails through POP unless you pay for the VIP account, which I think costs like $20 but still, it’s not fair to pay for a service which you can get for free elsewhere. If you want to have local copies of Live Mail you’ll have to use your Live Mail client provided by Microsoft (which is still in a beta stage!). With Gmail, for example, you can use whatever the hell you want… POP3 or SMTP are available for everyone, for free!
Don’t get me wrong, I think webmail is a wonderful thing, but if you have about 5 active e-mail accounts, like I do right now, it’s much more easy if all the information is concentrated in one single application. Not to mention that I’m currently using linux, so I can’t even use Live Mail (beta)… At least this time the new version of the Live Mail web application didn’t stiff linux users and made them use the crappy html-only version!
