Today Apple presented their new version of the iPhone Operating System. Some of the main features were already rumoured but, as usual, there was still a lot to be heard from Steve Jobs.
So, in a nutshell, here are the new features:
- Push
- Bluetooth will be able to auto-discover nearby people for games (no pairing needed). This will also be enabled via Wi-Fi
- No background processing (for battery life reasons)
- Cut,Copy and Paste will be available acroo all applications with a simple “double-tap” interface
- Meebo will be a native app for the iPhone
- New home screen on the left (before the main one) with a spotlight search which looks for stuff all over your phone
- CalDAV support, which allows you to subscribe to calendars online
- Internal search for apps, including Mail with IMAP support
- Landscape keyboard on all apps
- MMS support
- Stereo Bluetooth
- Hotspot auto-login
- Send and receive files between iPhone and iPod Touch
That’s basically it. I’m told the update will be available in July and, according to Mobile Crunch it will be free for iPhone users, but if you have an iPod Touch you’ll probably have to cough up $10.
