iPhone with more commercial applications than Windows Mobile

Apple’s App Store just added more 5000 commercial apps to it’s collection, meaning it now holds around 25,000 apps, taking the number one place and leaving Microsoft’s nine year-old collection crying like a baby.
Up until now Windows Mobile hold the record for applications available, building a wide collection over nine years. This all goes to second place now, since Apple’s App Store has finally overtaken WM as the commercial mobile application leader.
On the other hand, Microsoft is about the launch Windows Marketplace for Mobile, which should bring a whole new interface for people to buy/download applications directly on their phones. This should be coming out this year along with Windows Mobile 6.5.
Microsoft clearly has a lot to clean up and a lot to do, but I think they’re in the right track, apart from the whole “let’s launch Windows Mobile 6.5 so they temporarily forget about Windows Mobile 7″ fiasco…
The iPhone has the advantage of being stupid-simple to work with and with enough eye-candy to make you drool. All this combine gives great motive to developers to create new and original (free or paid) apps for the device…
Windows Mobile devices can also have eye-candy, but it usually eats up a lot of memory and takes some knowleage to master. The device itself also needs a major face-lift and I really hope WM6.5 changes that… usability is a big flaw in this OS and unless you know how to tweak it, it’s just not pratical.
