Vai(n)o P looks pretty, but still a knock-off
I’ve seen a lot of mobile and PDA knock-offs around the web. I even have a friend that has an iPhone knock-off called “Photo Viewer”! But I never actually thought they would go into laptops!
From what I can gather at the website (not a lot, since it’s mostly written in Chinese), the device is called “COOLVAIO”, although the lid clearly says “VAINO”.
Now the specs I found somewhat interesting… 10.2″ screen with 1024×600 resolution. Windows XP running on an Atom n270 1.6Ghz with 130GB(?) drive and 1GB DDR of RAM. Looks pretty cool and standard for the usual netbooks flying around but it’s still a knock-off that costs 300 Euro ($380).
I’m sorry, and I bet that the original Vaio P will cost a lot more, but €300 for a knock-off? I’d rather just buy a netbook from the usual suspects (ASUS, Acer, Toshiba, etc). Most of them are around that price over here (Portugal) and offer a lot more reliability.
Oh, and walking around with a laptop that says “VAINO” is just not cool.
PS: From what I saw, there are a lot more similar items on that website. Knock-offs to netbooks really seems to be picking up, huh? The only thing I find strange is how the hell are they selling enough with prices so similar to current netbooks on stores!?
