Live.com just got three new handy features in what appears to be an attempt to once again compete with Google’s search engine. Nevertheless, these features are pretty handy if you’re fond of Live Search and welcome a bit more functionality:
- Currency Conversion

A feature that should have already been implemented a long time ago, since it completely eliminates the need to search for an online currency converter.
You can also search using full text, like “100 united states dollars in euro”.
- Calculator

This is where I was really pleased: besides regular calculations (like 100*2.5 or 2+2), the new Live Search will also help you solve simple formulas, like the one above. Kudos Microsoft.
- Dictionary

Microsoft already announced that MSN Encarta will be discontinued later this year, but on the other hand they released it as the main source for the new Dictionary feature. A bit confusing, but I bet the guys over at Redmond have some sort of plan here.
Well, as you can see there’s really not much of an improvement to what Google already offers, besides the ability to calculate formulas. But on the other hand, competition usually leads to new features, so let’s hope this keeps up, huh?
