Google acquires reCAPTCHA
reCAPTCHA, a company that provides CAPTCHAs to help protect more than 100,000 websites from spam and fraud, was recently acquired by the IT giant Google.
A CAPTCHA, according to Wikipedia, is a type of challenge-response test used in computing to ensure that the response is not generated by a computer. This feature is commonly used in log in / sign up panels and comment areas where the developer wants to prevent spammers from using their website to advertise some H1N1 or Viagra pills…
That’s why we’re excited to welcome the reCAPTCHA team to Google, and we’re committed to delivering the same high level of performance that websites using reCAPTCHA have come to expect. Improving the availability and accessibility of all the information on the Internet is really important to us, so we’re looking forward to advancing this technology with the reCAPTCHA team.

I’m taking this as great news! I hope and fully anticipate that Google will work its magic to improve this important service. One of the many reminders that I’m getting older comes every single time when I have to take off my glasses and put them on again trying to pass the test and decipher the letters and code to advance on a website. It’s no fun when the computer screen asks if I’m human and then determines that I am not! : )
Best of luck Google in this acquisition.
